TWK Youth Gathering | Room Sponsorship Deadline Extended to TODAY! The inaugural TWK Youth Gathering will be October 7-9, 2022 at Gaylord Opryland! As we gather this October with teens to deepen their faith, celebrate our United Methodist connection, and serve our neighbors near and far, we can't wait to see how God leads us to BEGIN AGAIN! Register your group now. The deadline for conference sponsorship of hotel rooms is TODAY at 5:00 p.m. Register by September 26th to guarantee t-shirts in time for the event. View the schedule here! Final Drop-Off Opportunities for Disaster Response Supplies | Sept. 24 Tennessee-Western Kentucky Conference will be gathering cleaning and hygiene kits on September 24 to benefit the Kentucky and Mississippi Conferences. Hispanic Heritage Month is underway, and the TWK Commission on Religion & Race has compiled several resources to help you celebrate and learn. More. Finding God in Alzheimer's: A Hope In Action Conversation With Black Faith Leaders African Americans are 2-3 times more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease. In response to the high rate of Alzheimer’s in Tennessee and this disproportionate impact on Black families, Vanderbilt Memory and Alzheimer’s Center, in partnership with Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance, is hosting a half-day, open discussion called “Finding God in Alzheimer’s." Join African American faith leaders on Oct. 18 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Riverside Revival Nashville (1600 Riverside Dr.) and hear them discuss the reality, challenges, and possibilities for positioning the community to improve early diagnosis, access to care, and prevention of Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia. Rethinking Church Leadership: Session Two on Church Culture & Behavior Middle Tennessee State University's Jones College of Business is hosting its second session of "Rethinking Church Leadership" on Oct. 13 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Miller Education Center (503 E. General Commission on Religion & Race (GCORR) | CORR Action Fund Grant Program GCORR has announced a new cycle of the CORR Action Fund (CAF) grant program aimed to support creative initiatives that will transform the UMC and the world. The 2022-2023 grant program will provide up to $10,000 to fund projects that increase intercultural competency and support vital conversations about race, cultural diversity, and systemic equity leading to action. The application deadline is Nov. 15. Learn more and apply now. Ending Stigma: An Interfaith Discussion on Suicide Prevention Join faith leaders from multiple religious traditions on Sept. 28 at 10:00 a.m. as they discuss how they are supporting people at risk for suicide, and reducing its stigma in their communities. This Zoom webinar will highlight the importance of the new 988 Lifeline, which enables individuals in crisis to connect with someone who can help. Learn more and register. TWK Church & Society | Casino and Bingo Gambling Proposals in Tennessee The Tennessee state legislature will consider casino and bingo gambling proposals this January. TWK Church and Society plans to share information about this subject and the proposals over the next few months. National Summit on Mass Incarceration Strengthening the Black Church for the 21st Century (SBC21) is co-sponsoring the National Summit on Mass Incarceration, held October 19-22 in Charlotte, NC. Join faith leaders and organizers from across the country in this event aimed at developing strategies to eventually end mass incarceration. Learn more and register. Signs and Wonders: Explore the Miracle Stories with Dr. Amy-Jill Levine Join Dr. Amy-Jill Levine on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 1:00 p.m. as she discusses with writer Rob Simbeck her new study, Signs and Wonders: A Beginner’s Guide to the Miracles of Jesus. Hear from Levine as she examines how to open new ways of reading the miracle stories of Jesus, encounter new ideas, create new insights that can challenge old views, and explore how these narratives work for us, with us, and even on us.
