In addition to the many individual homes destroyed by the tornadoes, Mayfield First UMC, Dresden First UMC, the parsonage at Cayce UMC, and the home of a district staff person's relative sustained major damage. At least one death was reported in the Mayfield First congregation. Five families in the small McKendree UMC (Graves County) congregation lost their homes. Please Pray for All Impacted
Our initial deployments of Early Response Teams began this week to the areas affected by last weekend's tornadoes. We ask that you would join us in praying for survivors, grieving families, response teams, communities, churches, and all others whose lives have been impacted by the storms.
Give Financially
Along with your prayers, your online financial donations are vital to helping source our response efforts. If you wish to mail a check, the postal address is available on our disaster response page. We thank you for your commitment and support.
Report Where Assistance is Needed
A Crisis Cleanup Helpline has been set up to coordinate clean-up relief efforts for all impacted areas from the tornadoes this weekend. Individuals needing property clean-up assistance can call 800-451-1954. Please report Church damage to your district office.
Volunteer to Help
The Tennessee-Western Kentucky Conference and the Kentucky Conference are partnering in this response effort. Please fill out the volunteer form to serve on a team or to bring a team to assist during the coming weeks and months. Both credentialed ERTs and teams without training are encouraged to volunteer using the form that corresponds to their training level.
Watch for News and Updates
Frequent updates concerning both the storm damage and response are available on the TWK Disaster Response webpage as well as on the TWKUMC Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Greater Things Are Yet to Be Done Bishop McAlilly's Blog Stepping into the Challenge It is my observation that the people called Methodists do not shy away from challenges but rather they step into them. I look forward to seeing how God will empower our people to offer Christ to a hurting world as we engage in the long-term recovery from the most recent storm.
