New D.S. Appointments announced for the MS River, Cumberland River, Harpeth River Districts

Bishop William T. McAlilly of the Tennessee-Western Kentucky Conference of The United Methodist Church announced today his intention to make the following three cabinet appointments effective July 1, 2022. Rev. Jerry K. Wallace (pictured) will be appointed as the district superintendent of the Cumberland River District, based in Hendersonville, TN. Rev. Wallace is currently serving as the Senior Pastor of Springfield First UMC. He grew up in Crossville, TN. Before becoming a pastor, he served as Youth Director at Shelbyville First UMC. Rev. Wallace holds an Associate of Arts degree from UT Southern (formerly known as Martin Methodist College), a Bachelor of Science degree from MTSU in Mass Communications, and a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt University. His pastoral appointments over the past 30 years include the Blanche Circuit, Centenary and New Bethel, Mt Zion (Red River District), Craft Memorial, Murfreesboro First, Carthage-Cedar Point, Gallatin First, and Springfield First. He has served on the DCOM for the former Cookeville and Cumberland Districts and on the TNUMC Stewardship and Camping committees. Rev. Wallace also served on the TNUMC Board of Ordained Ministry and the BOM Executive Committee. He co-chaired the Elder’s Orders and co-chaired the TWK Benefits Task Team. He also has served on Cumberland River District Operations and L3 Leaders teams. Currently, he serves on the TWKUMC Health and Pension Benefits Committee and the Administrative Review Committee. Rev. Wallace is married to Jamie Shelby Wallace and they have two grown children, Shelby and Grace Wallace as well as one grandchild.


Rev. Dr. David O. Weatherly (pictured) will be appointed as the district superintendent of the Mississippi River District, based in Alamo, TN. Dr. Weatherly has served churches in the Memphis Conference for 27 years. A native Memphian, David was educated in the Memphis City School system. He attended Lambuth College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Media Communications. After working in the broadcast field of sports radio and television for four years, David joined the staff at St. Luke’s UMC in Memphis as the first Director of their new Christian Life Center. Soon after, he answered the call to pastoral ministry. He holds a Master of Religious Studies and a Master of Divinity from Memphis Theological Seminary. He recently earned a Doctor of Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. Dr. Weatherly began his appointive ministry as the Associate Minister at St. Luke’s. His appointments also include Jackson First UMC as the Associate Minister, Executive Minister at Collierville UMC, and currently, as Pastor of Covenant UMC, in the Cordova area of Memphis. His roots in Methodism run deep in West Tennessee. His grandparents, the late Rev. Dan and Ruth Overall met and married while attending Lambuth College in the 1920s. His grandfather served in ministry for forty-one years in the Memphis Conference, retiring in 1969. Dr. Weatherly is married to April, who is from Medina, TN, and they have two adult sons, Eli and Luke.


Rev. Dr. Vona R. Wilson (pictured) will be appointed as the district superintendent of the Harpeth River District, based in Pulaski, TN. Dr. Wilson grew up in rural Western Kentucky. She has 33 years of leadership experience in the public, private and non-profit sector. She currently serves as the Senior Associate Pastor of Franklin First United Methodist Church. Prior to full time ministry, she served in a variety of roles, all focused on serving the community and facilitating change. A former paramedic, she served as the Director of the Emergency Medical Services in Williamson County. She also served as the Director of Organizational Improvement for Williamson Medical Center and helped facilitate change, strategic planning and leadership development throughout the hospital. Dr. Wilson then answered the call of God to take her experiences into full-time ministry. She has served on the clergy staff team with Franklin First UMC a total of 15 years; Bethlehem UMC in Williamson County as Interim Lead Pastor during a midyear pastoral transition; and three years as Chaplain for the YMCA of Middle Tennessee. She leads the New Church Development Team for the TWK, and serves on the Ethnic Local Church Concerns, Hispanic Ministries and Health and Wellness Committees. Dr. Wilson holds a Doctor of Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC and a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Management and Human Relations and a Master of Organizational Management from Trevecca University as well as an Associate of Applied Science in Paramedic Technology from Vol State Community College.
