Dr. Davis offers the following prayer to our district on this special day of prayer...
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
Gracious God, we cannot begin to imagine your great and glorious majesty! As we look out and see Your brilliant sky and feel the cool gentle breeze, we know the enjoyment of these gifts are because of Your great mercy.
On this National Day of Prayer, we lift up all those in leadership positions. Please grant them wisdom beyond knowledge and skills. Please grant compassion, kindness, respect, generosity and integrity to all who lead. Please fill the hearts of those you have called with justice and mercy for all people.
You, O’ God are our joy and delight! Protect us from all forms of evil that distress our spirits and our witness. Keep us safe from the fiery darts of the enemy that perpetuate poverty, injustice, hatred, confusion, lack of access to healthcare, inadequate and insufficient educational opportunities and the many factions that divide us. Forgive us when power, privilege, personality, and property are more important than Your people.
Help us to remember that whoever is kind to the poor, lends to the Lord. (Proverbs 19:17)
Help us to remember that when You were a stranger, we invited You in. (Matthew 25:31-40)
Remind us to not oppress foreigners, strangers, asylum seekers and migrants because we see that in You. (Exodus 22:21 and 22 23:6-9)
Help us to see all people as though we are looking in the face of God, since we are all made in Your image. (Genesis 1:26)
Help us to not take advantage of or mistreat the widow, orphans, and the fatherless. (Exodus 22:22)
Help us to look out for the most vulnerable among us including those who are elderly, those who struggle with mental health challenges, feeble bodies, downcast spirits and those who never feel as though they are enough or good enough. (II Corinthians 5:21)
Help us to remember You are the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the Root and Offspring of David and that You hold the keys to eternal life, death and hell. (Revelations 22:12-16)
Help us to remember to love the Lord our God with all our hearts, souls, mind and strength and our neighbor as ourselves. (Matthew 22:37-40)
Come, Lord Jesus, and help us to love. “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” ( I John 3:16-18)
We pray for all people, in all places, in all situations, and we pray in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
