MOTHER’S DAY PRAYER

Gracious God, we give you thanks and praise for mothers today…

For those who bore children who were the delight of their eyes…

For those who gave their children up for adoption…

For those who lost their child before they took their first breath…

For those whose children lived only a few hours, a few days or a few months…

For those who did not know how to mother, nurture or love their children…

For those who struggle to feed and provide for their children…

For those whose children were stolen from them…

For those who lost their children to disease, accidents or trauma…

For those who did not want their children…

For those who mothered others though they never physically gave birth

themselves…

For neighbors, and grandmothers and aunts and cousins and friends who became

a village of mothers for every child needing discipline, love and attention…

For mothers who are no longer with us and have joined that great cloud of

witness, we thank you for the gift of life given to us and the precious memories

we cherish because they lived…

Gracious God, please bless mothers this day as we pay them homage for love well

done! For those who struggle, encourage. For those who are overwhelmed, give

peace. For those who are joyful, let it overflow.

Thank you for this precious gift we celebrate today. Pour the waters of baptism

and grace over each of them that renews, refreshes and strengthens them for the

journey.

We give thanks in Jesus Name. Amen.
