The following prayer was offered by Rev. Dr. Mary Beth Bernheisel, pastor of Dyersburg First UMC:
God who is holy and merciful, just and true, we come before you today in the fullness of our humanity. Some are broken and some are tired, some are lost and some are lonely. Some come to you joyfully and others come hoping to find joy. We all come seeking transformation—we all come clinging to your promise that we are not yet what we will be, but that you are daily recreating us so that we might become more like you.
Send your Holy Spirit to us, now, we humbly ask, and send your Holy Spirit to us every day. Send it to form us and transform us—our individual lives, our communities, our families, and our churches. Send your Holy Spirit to comfort us, to accompany us, to give us peace, and to give us life. Send your Holy Spirit to do whatever work is needed to make us more like you and to make our churches more like your Kingdom.
Keep us in your perfect peace and prepare us for your glory.
Amen.
